5 Premier League transfers that could still happen this summer

The Premier League transfer window will close on August 8th prior to the season kicking off. Last season saw the transfer window shut before the start of the season for the first time and it changed the way teams bought and sold players.

This summer will also see the transfer deadline come before the first match is played in the Premier League. With just over a month until the end of the transfer market, these 5 Premier League transfers could still happen this summer.

Manchester United – Harry Maguire

Manchester United supporters lambasted Liverpool for paying £75 million for centre-back Virgil van Dijk in January 2018. Since he moved to Anfield, Van Dijk has become the best centre half in the world, justifying his price tag.

Now, the Red Devils are looking to sign Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and have tabled a bid of £70m for the defender. Leicester City have stated they want more than £75m for the Englishman.

His loss could greatly derail Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the Foxes this season. Leicester City will hope to keep him, but Manchester United may grow desperate and cave-in to the financial demands.

Manchester City – Rodri

Atletico Madrid signed defensive midfielder Rodri from Villarreal last summer. His performances have already influenced Manchester City to part with £62m to sign the Spaniard.

Rodri is seen as the heir apparent to current Manchester City holding midfielder Fernandinho. A deal is said to be agreed after Manchester City paid Rodri’s Atletico Madrid release clause.

Rodri will be a youthful upgrade to Fernandinho, whose important showed late last season when he missed four matches. Fernandinho’s contract will expire at the Etihad next July.

Liverpool – Dani Ceballos

Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has attracted attention from Premier League teams this offseason. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be very interested in signing Ceballos following his excellent European U-21 Championship campaign.

Ceballos helped Spain’s U-21 team win the tournament and scored two goals during the competition. He appeared in 34 matches in all competitions for Real Madrid last season.

Ceballos may find playing time difficult to come by at Madrid and the club could be willing to sell him to fund further player recruitment.

Tottenham Hotspur – Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur may have done the most shocking thing in the Premier League this offseason. They actually made a transfer signing by adding Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele. Now, Spurs have transfer fever and want to sign more players.

Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon has long been on Tottenham’s wishlist. Sessegnon is a similar player to the raw full-back they signed years ago from Southampton named Gareth Bale.

Sessegnon’s first season in the Premier League didn’t go well as Fulham were relegated. However, Bale didn’t have the best seasons at Tottenham when he initially arrived.

Manchester United – Wissam Ben Yedder

Manchester United are keen on signing Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder to take over the No. 9 position with Romelu Lukaku inching toward the Old Trafford exit. Ben Yedder scored 18 La Liga goals last season and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is high on the player. Perhaps it is because he sees Ben Yedder as a similar player to himself.

Ben Yedder has already agreed personal terms and now Manchester United and Sevilla must work out a deal. Although Sevilla will want to keep their top scorer, at least in public, sporting director Monchi is renowned for selling top players.

At Roma, Monchi sold Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker to Liverpool in consecutive summers for a pittance. He will most likely do it with Ben Yedder at Sevilla.
